About me
For nearly a decade, I was an airline pilot. Sure, it’s not the most creative job out there, but let me explain how my experience in aviation is the perfect base for my new career in film.
Flying from A to B is rather similar to going from idea to script to film. Both are dynamic processes with challenges and obstacles along the way. Both require constant reevaluation and adjustment so that in the end, the goal is achieved within time and budget.
For the second half of my pilot career I was a captain with full responsibility for passengers, crew and a million dollar machine. How does that translate to working in film? I bring being in charge of people and equipment from the skies to the set by effective planning, preempting problems and considerate people-managing.
So, is writing a screenplay, producing a film and working on set like piloting a passenger jet? I think so. The vocabulary may be different, but the essence is the same.
